Abercrombie & KentIn one of the most beautiful and prized spot of the Masai Mara Conservation Area on the banks of the Mara river lies Olonana Safari Camp adjacent to a Masai cultural village in the heart of Kenya’s Big Game country. This unique setting offers a world of remarkable opportunities for

safari adventurers. In addition to big game viewing on the Masai Mara Reserve, visitors are offered a rare glimpse of the day-to-day lives of the Masai people and culture.
Olonana features 12 spacious permanent tents each tastefully appointed with comfortable queen-size beds, ensuite bathrooms with showers, and large, riverview verandahs.
The power requirements of this luxury camp are not minimal and yet the management decided to go for the solar energy option despite the adjustments that such solution exerted on their demanding clientele.

Great attention to details was paid to minimise loads consumption and usage with strict guidelines for staff and whenever possible to visitors. As the camp was started there was no clear idea on the pattern of use therefore a solution was reached by providing a solar system which could cater for most loads.

However a provision for a standby the generator was made in order to cater for the excessive unexpected power consumption. The loads to be powered are the following:

  • 201 Energy saving lights
  • 02 TVs and Satellite Dish
  • 03 Refrigerators
  • 03 Freezers
  • 02 Pumps
  • 02 Computers
  • 02 Printers
As the camp started operations new loads were added, however a careful use of the system provides electricity to visitors and staff 24 hours/day generated mainly by the solar system.
